Building Bridges between the Church
and people who are far from God.

What is an Evangelizing Church?
While there is a lot of discussion about how to define a Evangelizing Church, we at the Billy Graham Center are purposely setting our standards high according to the present benchmarks. We do so not because our approach is any better, but in looking at the present reality, the Church needs to make some drastic course corrections if we are going to see this generation brought to Christ. With that in mind, the Evangelizing Church Project (ECP) will move your church towards these benchmarks:
1. Number of yearly significant spiritual decisions should approach a number corresponding to 10% of your attendance.
2. Those who make spiritual decisions will be assimilated into the Body as shown by church and community involvement.
3. A majority of your congregation (50%+) engage someone in a (significant) spiritual conversation monthly.
4. At least 75% of your Church would have training in Relational Evangelism.
5. It is the norm for the believers in your church to identify that they are called by God to know Him and to make Him known.
What do Evangelizing Churches have in Common?
While no Church has arrived in every area, we find some common factors present in churches that are seeing significant conversion growth. ECP will work with your Church over a two year period of time to strengthen what you are presently doing well and to implement new directions.
Common Denominators
- Evangelizing Churches are led by evangelizing leaders: Senior Pastors or Pastors; Pastoral Staff; Evangelism Point Person (EPP); Support Team
- Evangelizing Churches are permeated with evangelizing believers: Church-wide Training in Relational Evangelism (Prayer-Care-Share); Lay-led ministry is empowered by leadership; Small Groups where people are ministering to each other.
- Evangelizing Churches know who God has called them to reach and adapt as needed: A community assessment is attained; Accessible entry points for those on their journey to belief are identified; There is willingness to meet the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of those who are far from God.
- Evangelizing Churches are willing to prioritize their resources to reach those who are far from God: Outreach that is often radical & daring; Support systems for people sharing their faith; Corporate proclamation events; Ministries of practical care in the community & local church.
- Evangelizing Churches create a contagious climate where people are - - - Vulnerable; Emotionally connected to Christ & others; Intentionally seeking those who are far from God; Quick to celebrate the work of God in drawing those who are far from God.
"However I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace."
